Got up around 7. What an awesome place. I love life on the road. I know it isn't for everyone but I think that if more people tried it they would be hooked. I have been fortunate in that my Roadtrek RV has been very reliable. My biggest frustration has been with battery maintenance. From all the research I've done the solution is simply adding solar. I will be doing just that this summer.
This morning I walked to the public restroom and did my business. It was a little unsettling in that while there were stalls there were no does on the stalls. Reminded me of my first few days in basic training. There weren't even stalls there, just 3 toilets spaced about 3 feet apart along one wall.
Back at the RT I did the morning routine, having oats for breakfast. I then secured everything and drove back to Cabrillo National Monument. I checked out the visitor center and then walked to the Old Point Loma Lighthouse which was first used in 1855. Along the way I came across a WW2 bunker. The bunker was high on a hill that had a view of more than 180 degrees of the ocean below. The lighthouse was behind and even higher than the bunker. That was actually a problem in that sometimes there would be low clouds or fog that would make it difficult for ships to see the light. Consequently there was another lighthouse built in 1891 that was right above the shoreline at the point of the peninsula. From my vantage point at the bunker it did not appear that it is open to the public.
If I had all the money in the world I would buy that property. I spent at least an hour just transfixed on the view.
I finally got hungry and walked back to the RT and nuked a can of beef stew for a late lunch. I relaxed enjoying the view of San Diego Bay until it was time to leave.
I drove to the Sam's Club I had parked at when I first arrived in San Diego. I was shocked to see no overnight parking signs all over the parking lot. I'm sure they were there before but I never noticed them. I drove over to the Walmart and bought $50 worth of groceries. Back at the RT I drove across the street and parked by a gym. I made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for dinner and ate it while watching some TV. Around 11:00 I called it a night and went to bed.
